What is Sword Art Online II about?

Sword Art Online II is a TV anime series of 24 episodes animated by A-1 Pictures, adapted from a light novel. It aired from July 5, 2014 to December 20, 2014. One year after the SAO incident, Kirito is approached by Seijiro Kikuoka from Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications Department "VR Division" with a rather peculiar request.

That was an investigation on the "Death Gun" incident that occurred in the gun and steel filled VRMMO called Gun Gale Online (GGO). "Players who are shot by a mysterious avatar with a jet black gun lose their lives even in the real world..." Failing to turn down Kikuoka's bizarre request, Kirito logs in to GGO even though he is not completely convinced that the virtual world could physically affect the real world.

Kirito wanders in an unfamiliar world in order to gain any clues about the "Death Gun." Then, a female sniper named Sinon who owns a gigantic "Hecate II" rifle extends Kirito a helping hand. With Sinon's help, Kirito decides to enter the "Bullet of Bullets," a large tournament to choose the most powerful gunner within the realm of GGO, in hopes to become the target of the "Death Gun" and make direct contact with the mysterious avatar.

    Main character

    Asuna is a friend of Kirito and is a sub-leader of the guild Knights of the Blood (KoB), a medium-sized guild of about thirty players, also called the strongest guild in Aincrad. Being one of the few girls that are in SAO, and even more so that she's extremely pretty, she receives many invitations and proposals.

    A friendly player that meets Kirito at the start of the game and quickly befriends and learns from him. He and Kirito later separate because he has friends who were also new to the game so he couldn't leave them.

    Supporting character

    Kazuto's sister in the real world. She is 15 years old and in her third year of junior high, as well as a member of the Kendou club. She's a diligent worker and has been practicing Kendou for 8 years.

    Supporting character

    She is a middle level dagger user. She is a very cheerful and sweet girl. She has a very rare familiar, a feathery dragon that she named Pina after her cat in the real world. She treasured Pina a lot and was the reason she survived in the game.

    Supporting character

    A young and cheerful girl with long black hair who looks no older than 10 years old. Kirito and Asuna found her in a forest on the 22nd floor of Aincrad.

    Supporting character

    A mace wielder that runs a blacksmith shop in Aincrad on the 48th floor. She made Asuna’s rapier ‘Lament Light’ and one day got a request from Kirito to make him a sword with similar or better quality than his one handed long sword ‘Elucidator’ that he got from a monster drop.

  • Kyouko Yuuki

    Supporting character

    She is Asuna's mother, she hates FullDive programs after her daughter was trapped in one for 2 years. She is strictly with Asuna as she decides her daughters future and gets angry very fast. She once tried a FullDive program but she logged off in just a few minutes saying that she was dizzy.

  • Andrew Gilbert Mills アンドリュー・ギルバート・ミルズ

    Supporting character

    A merchant stationed at city Algate, located at the 50th floor of Aincrad. His shop motto is "Buy cheap and sell cheap". He is a very strong axe-wielding warrior in the frontlines.

  • Vassago Casals ヴァサゴ・カザルス

    Supporting character

    Leader and founder of the red guild "Laughing Coffin", known for his large knife and catch phrase "It's show time."
