What is Spirited Away about?
Spirited Away is an anime film animated by Studio Ghibli, based on an original story written for the screen. It was released in July 20, 2001. AniList classifies it as adventure, drama, fantasy and supernatural.
On the way to their new home, 10-year-old Chihiro Ogino's family stumbles upon a deserted theme park. Intrigued, the family investigates the park, though unbeknownst to them, it is secretly inhabited by spirits who sleep by day and appear at night. When Chihiro's mother and father eat food from a restaurant in the street, angry spirits turn them into pigs. Furthermore, a wide sea has appeared between the spirit world and the human one, trapping Chihiro, the sole human, in a land of spirits. Luckily for her though, a mysterious boy named Haku appears, claiming to know her from the past. Under his instructions, Chihiro secures a job in the bathhouse where Haku works. With only her courage and some new found friends to aid her, Chihiro embarks on a journey to turn her parents back to their original forms and return home.

Main characters
Characters AniList lists in a main role, with spoiler-free notes.
Chihiro Ogino 荻野千尋
Main character
Chihiro is a shy, pessimistic girl. At the beginning of the movie, she and her parents are in the process of moving to a new town. When her father takes the wrong turn, they end up near what her father thinks is "an abandoned amusement park." In reality, it is a bathhouse for spirits that operates at night time.
Japanese voice: Rumi Hiiragi
Haku ハク
Main character
Haku is Chihiro's first friend in the strange world. He studies with the sorceress Yubaba and has magical powers. It's said that he lost his way home and his name in the world of spirits.
Japanese voice: Miyu Irino
Supporting characters
Yubaba 湯婆婆
Supporting character
The evil, greedy witch that runs the spirits bath house where Chihiro is forced to work. She is known to be very powerful and has the ability to turn into a bird. She has a very large son whom she takes care of at the bath house and only shows her nice nature to him.
Japanese voice: Mari Natsuki
Rin リン

A worker at the bathhouse who becomes Chihiro's caretaker. Although cold at first, she warms up to Chihiro and grows a strong bond with her. She warns No Face, who had previously gone on a rampage, not to harm Chihiro or there would be trouble.

Kaonashi カオナシ

No Face is an odd spirit that takes an interest in Chihiro. Chihiro lets No Face into the bathhouse through a side door. At first, he is a strange, cloaked, masked wraith that merely breathes and smiles.
Japanese voice: Tatsuya Gashuin
Akio Ogino 荻野明夫
Supporting character
Chihiro's father. He is very optimistic and is unreasonably confident. Although Chihiro feels uneasy, he just goes into the tunnel they happened to find. He has a careless side, as he helped himself to the food in front of him. Because he ate the food intended for the gods, he was turned into a pig, as was his wife.
Japanese voice: Takashi Naitou
Yuuko Ogino 荻野悠子
Supporting character
Chihiro's mother. She is realistic and strong. She is used to Chihiro's temper, and she doesn’t care so much even though Chihiro has a sullen expression in the back seat of the car. She speaks her mind without hesitation to her husband, but in the end, she follows him.
Japanese voice: Yasuko Sawaguchi
Kamajii 釜爺

A son of Yubaaba. Judging from his appearance, he is probably a baby, but he is quite huge, and he eats enormously. He is quite spoiled as Yubaaba dotes on him.

Kashira カシラ
Supporting character
Strange trio of brothers in Yu-baaba's room. They only have heads and move about by bouncing on the floor.
Zeniba 銭婆
Supporting character
The twin sister of Yu-baaba. Although she looks exactly the same as Yu-baaba, she seems to have a very different personality. She holds the key to the story.
Japanese voice: Mari Natsuki
Makkuro-Kurosuke まっくろくろすけ
Supporting character
The "dust bunnies" or "soot sprites" first featured in My Neighbor Totoro as shy, slightly frightful creatures that live in abandoned buildings such as houses. They later reappeared in Spirited Away as workers in Kamaji's boiler room.
Ootori-sama オオトリさま
Supporting character
These Gods of Birds look like giant ducks and are only shown in large groups. They love to bathe, as shown at Yubaba's Bath House for Spirits.
Oshira-sama お白様
Supporting character
The God of Daiken Radish is a large white spirit that wears a red hat. His main appearance in "Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi" is when Chihiro and Rin are in the elevator and he/she enters too, leaving little space for Chihiro and causing her a great struggle to pull the elevator lever.
