What is Kuroko's Basketball about?
Kuroko's Basketball is a TV anime series of 25 episodes animated by Production I.G, adapted from a manga. It aired from April 8, 2012 to September 22, 2012. AniList classifies it as comedy and sports. It continues from Kuroko's Basketball: Tip Off, which is worth watching first.
Teikou Junior High School's basketball team is crowned champion three years in a row thanks to five outstanding players who, with their breathtaking and unique skills, leave opponents in despair and fans in admiration. However, after graduating, these teammates, known as "The Generation of Miracles", go their separate ways and now consider each other as rivals.
At Seirin High School, two newly recruited freshmen prove that they are not ordinary basketball players: Taiga Kagami, a promising player returning from the US, and Tetsuya Kuroko, a seemingly ordinary student whose lack of presence allows him to move around unnoticed. Although Kuroko is neither athletic nor able to score any points, he was a member of Teikou's basketball team, where he played as the "Phantom Sixth Man," who easily passed the ball and assisted his teammates.
Kuroko no Basket follows the journey of Seirin's players as they attempt to become the best Japanese high school team by winning the Interhigh Championship. To reach their goal, they have to cross pathways with several powerful teams, some of which have one of the five players with godlike abilities, whom Kuroko and Taiga make a pact to defeat.

Main characters
Characters AniList lists in a main role, with spoiler-free notes.
Tetsuya Kuroko 黒子テツヤ
Main character
The phantom sixth member of the "Generation of Miracles." He has a very weak presence and often seemingly appears out of nowhere as a result. At the first glance all of his abilities seem to be below average, but despite being bad at dribbling and shooting he can be a dangerous opponent.
Japanese voice: Kenshou Ono
Taiga Kagami 火神大我
Main character
Kagami was in America until second year of middle school and has recently come back to Japan in his first year of high school. He is determined to surpass "The Generation of Miracles" and become the number one. Along with Kuroko, they're the only two freshmen allowed to play in matches.
Japanese voice: Yuuki Ono
Supporting characters
Riko Aida 相田リコ
Supporting character
She is the coach of the basketball team. She has the ability to be able to tell the potential of each basketball player just by looking at their bodies. Her ability works best when the players are shirtless. She got this ability by following her father to work.
Japanese voice: Chiwa Saitou
Ryouta Kise 黄瀬涼太
Supporting character
Now a freshman at Kaijou High, Kise was the rookie of the "Generation of Miracles". Since he only started playing basketball in his second year of middle school, Kise was his team's least experienced member, and notes himself the weakest of the five.
Japanese voice: Ryouhei Kimura
Shun Izuki 伊月俊
Supporting character
A Seirin sophomore who is known for being calm and composed. He also tends to make lame puns. His special ability is his Eagle Eye, which allows him to 'see' his selected area on the court without actually looking.
Japanese voice: Hirofumi Nojima
Rinnosuke Mitobe 水戸部凛之助
Supporting character
A hard working player who has never spoken in front of his team members. For some reason, Koganei can understand what's on his mind and then speaks for him. Mitobe is the eldest son in a really big family, with a lot of brothers and sisters.
Shintarou Midorima 緑間真太郎
Supporting character
Midorima often acts reserved, mean, and brusque with others, coming off as arrogant—although Takao claims Midorima is just "tsundere." He has a hard time acting kind to his opponents and generally hates "fooling around" (although Takao often pursues him into it).
Japanese voice: Daisuke Ono
Junpei Hyuuga 日向順平
Supporting character
Sophomore and Seirin basketball club's captain. His specialty is 3 pointers, and can shoot accurately even if under extreme pressure. He's the team's clutch during tough situations. Hyuuga really likes to collect ancient Japanese warrior figurines (ex: Masamune, Yukimura, etc) and treasures them a lot.
Japanese voice: Yoshimasa Hosoya
Shinji Koganei 小金井慎二
Supporting character
A Seirin sophomore. Considered a jack of all trades, master of none, Koganei is a fairly skilled all-rounder. This is driven home when his coach denotes his special skill as "being able to shoot from any point on the court, with a so-so accuracy rate"; a decidedly normal ability.
Japanese voice: Takuya Eguchi
Daiki Aomine 青峰大輝
Supporting character
Aomine was the ace of Teikou's team, embracing an aggressive and liquid style, made even more powerful by Kuroko's misdirection. In fact, Aomine was once Kuroko's "Light", before Kagami.
Japanese voice: Junichi Suwabe
Satsuki Momoi 桃井さつき
Supporting character
The ex-manager of the basketball team at Teikou, and now serving as Touou's manager. She's in fact Aomine's childhood friend and enters Touou together with him because she can't leave him alone. She is actually in love with Kuroko and considers herself to be Kuroko's girlfriend.
Japanese voice: Fumiko Orikasa
Atsushi Murasakibara 紫原敦
Supporting character
Formerly playing center for Teikou Middle School's basketball team, he does the same now for Yousen High School. Beyond possessing shoulder-length, purple hair, Murasakibara is immediately recognizable for his great height, at least ten centimeters taller than any other currently revealed member of the Generation of…
Japanese voice: Kenichi Suzumura
Seijuurou Akashi 赤司征十郎
Supporting character
The final member of the Generation of Miracles, he stood at their head as captain, leading their team to uncontested victory during the three years he played for Teikou Middle School. He is uninterested in winning, simply because victory in his eyes is an absolute given, requisite to his own life as much as breathing.
Japanese voice: Hiroshi Kamiya
Yukio Kasamatsu 笠松幸男
Supporting character
The captain of Kaijou's basketball team, Kasamatsu is a nationally credited point guard. Possessed of a short temper and often exceedingly serious demeanor, he can become quickly enraged over the antics of his teammates, Kise in particular, and often vents his feelings with sudden fits of violence.
Japanese voice: Souichirou Hoshi
